WALTON — The Walton football Warriors scored the first 22 points of the game on Saturday, propelling them to a 46-16 triumph over visiting Bainbridge-Guilford. The win gave the Warriors a 7-0 record, and they also earned the top seed for the Section IV Class D tournament, which begins this weekend.

Head Coach Jim Hoover commented, "We opened up our running game with some passes early in the game.

We played well on both sides of the ball, again. Another help is that we have played healthier this year, with no major injuries like we had the last two years."

To get the scoring started, Warrior quarterback Trevor Zandt, finished off the first drive of the game with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Wright, and Wright ran for the two-point conversion. Later in the opening 12 minutes, Christian Rutherford broke a 48-yard scoring run, and Zandt connected with Robert Merrill for two points to boost the lead to 16-0

Zandt threw his second touchdown pass of the day early in the second quarter, firing a 20-yard strike to Ryan Fairchild. The Bobcats got on the board in their next possession, with Dylan Moffitt running the bale in from five yards out, and Moffitt got two more points on a conversion pass by Austin Carr. The Warriors responded with Quinn Harby scoring on an 11-yard touchdown run. Zandt found Wright with the conversion pass, and Walton had a 30-8 halftime lead.

Harby broke free on a 31-yard scoring run in the third quarter, and Zandt again hit Wright on the conversion pass to make the score 38-8. In the final frame, Derek Mead, raced 32 yards on a scoring run, and Aaron Steitz ran for the two points, which would be the Warriors last of the day.

OUT OF REACH —As an official looks on closely, the ball nears him, after being thrown out of reach, as neither the intended receiver or a potential interceptor could reach it. B-G reached its final score on a long pass play, with Carr throwing to Moffitt on a 56-yard play, and the same duo combined for the two conversion points. "That really was the only big play they had all day," Hoover remarked.

The Warriors amassed more than 400 yards on the ground, led by 104 by Harby. Rutherford, Mead, Wright, Dawson Beers and Zandt also ran for more than 40 yards in the game. Zandt completed eight passes in 13 attempts for 121 yards.

Carr passed for 162 yards on eight of 21 completions. The B-G rushing game got just 32 yards in 24 carries.
