Six of Walton’s eight rushing touchdowns came in the first half Saturday as the Warriors jumped to a 44-13 halftime lead on visiting Seton Catholic Central en route to a Section Four Football Conference victory in the season opener for both teams.

Dawson Beers finished with 148 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries for Walton, which got three TD runs from Derek Mead, two from Dylan Wood and another from Tabor VanValkenburg.

Mead had 90 rushing yards on four touches, Wood contributed 70 yards on six carries, and Jacob Merrill had 52 yards on five rishes for Walton, which held a 30-6 lead after one quarter.

Beers opened the scoring with a 22-yard TD run, followed by a 36-yard scoring run by Wood. Beers then scored from 4 yards out and ran in his third straight twopoint conversion to put Walton ahead, 24-0.

After Seton scored on a passing play, Mead went on a three-TD run. He ran for touchdowns of 17, 30 and 47 yards to close Walton’s scoring in the first half.

Walton visits Oxford at 7 p.m. Friday.
